Referring to your predecessor's despatch

No. 287 of the 9th. November, I have the honour to state that Mr. J. Grant tendered his resignation from the service upon his om initiative, giving no reason for so doing.

2.

The resignation was accepted, as Mr. Grant's

work was not good; and this Government does not propose to re-employ him. In the circumstances he has no claim to my

renumeration from the Colony's funds.
